Daniel (Benjamin Wehrli), a Swiss-German botanist broken by life, decides to isolate himself in his family cabin. At the same time, completely lost in the mountains after being dropped by a smuggler at the Italian-Swiss border, Zaineb (Aoitef Kouki) and her eight-year-old daughter Emna (Cassie Kouki) try to reach a Swiss town illegally.

The film Emna features three characters whose socio-cultural backgrounds are at odds with each other, and who are separated by a totally impenetrable language barrier. Culture, religion, language... Emna tells the story of an attempt to break down these barriers, showing how compassion, empathy - humanity - can transcend differences.
